Purushottam Ghimire dedicated over 32 years to public service within the Government of Nepal, with 15 of those years focused on Climate Change (CC), Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM), and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As a Joint Secretary, he served as Chief of the Environment and Climate Change Division and as the Ministry of Environment’s Focal Point for the UNFCCC. He played a pivotal role in leading various climate change projects, including the NAPA, LAPA, PPCR, and EBA, and represented the Nepalese delegation at multiple UNFCCC sessions. Additionally, he was elected as a board member of the Global Mountain Partnership representing the Asia Pacific Group for three years and served as a focal point for both ICIMOD and UNDESA.
Moreover, he worked as a Policy Expert for USAID and Oxford Policy Management (OPM), a DFID-supported program in Nepal. He served as a Governance Advisor on the initiative to develop a Collaborative Disaster Risk Reduction Mechanism for Hydropower Projects and Communities through the installation of Early Warning Systems (EWS). His contributions extended to advising the UNFCCA and participating in the Clean Cooking Campaign in Nepal, where he supported the development of the Clean Cooking National Guidelines.
